Collecting the Future is a project aimed at highlighting Sinop’s existing cultural heritage and values at risk of disappearing, while raising awareness among local residents about the importance of preserving and sustaining these values through arts and culture. The project was supported by the Civil Society Dialogue Grant Programme between Türkiye and the European Union.

Implemented in collaboration with cultural institutions from various European cities, the project featured a series of events, including the City Gathering, City Academy, and City Exhibition. Held at the Historical Prison, these events brought together civil society initiatives from Sinop, representatives of universities and public institutions, researchers from different cities across Türkiye and abroad, representatives of good practices, and artists. Together, they established a platform focused on “thinking collectively for the city.” This initiative marked the first cultural planning experience of its kind and scale in Sinop.

All the activities also served as a living model and practical exploration of how the Historical Prison could function as a cultural center in the future.
